San Diego Landscape Remodeling & Outdoor Design-Build

The last room in your home is outside.

Custom outdoor remodeling for San Diego homeowners who want a space worth living in — and a firm that answers the phone after the build. One crew. Both founders on every project, start to finish.

✓ CSLB Licensed ✓ Fully Insured ✓ San Diego County ✓ 1-Year Workmanship Warranty

The firm

We design and build outdoor spaces that change how you live at home.

San Diego Landscape Remodeling is a curated firm — two partners, a senior field crew, and a short client list each year. Our primary work is full backyard remodels in the fifty-to-three-hundred-thousand-dollar range. We also take on scoped hardscape and structure projects when the fit is right.

We price every job honestly — scoped to your property, your goals, your materials — and that number doesn't move based on who else is bidding. Design and build is our only work. We don't split our attention.

What we build

Full backyard remodels, and the pieces that make them.

No small-scope work. Nothing we cannot personally stand behind.

Full backyard remodel — outdoor living space San Diego

Full backyard remodels

Our primary work. A plan for the entire outdoor footprint, drawn by our design team, rendered so you can see the finished space before anything is broken ground, and built under dedicated senior field leadership, first cut to final clean. Most projects land between fifty and three hundred thousand dollars.

Custom hardscape patio and retaining wall — San Diego

Hardscape & structure

Paver patios and walkways, retaining walls, stone and tile surfaces, pergolas and cabanas, fire features, outdoor lighting. The slow, craft-heavy work that sets a space apart from a landscaper's install. A specialty materials background most outdoor-remodel firms do not have access to.

Finishing layers

Artificial turf, planting, and irrigation — sold as part of a full remodel, not standalone. We do not do maintenance-company work, tree trimming, or quick-fix installs. We do not take on small-scope work, because anything smaller cannot be built to our standard.

Signature programs

The quiet parts of our service.

Most contractors disappear the day the driveway is clean. We built the company so that the relationship begins there.

  • The 10-Month Walk-Through

A scheduled visit ten months after completion. We walk the space with you, inspect every detail of our work against the seasons it has seen, and handle what needs handling. No invoice.

  • Direct-Founder Access

You will have both of our cell phones from the first call. Every project is personally run by one of us. There is no account manager.

  • The Tended Garden

An optional post-project service that keeps the space at the condition it was the day we finished. Light-touch, on a cadence you choose.

A practice, not a production line

Two partners, a senior crew, and a carefully held short list each year.

San Diego Landscape Remodeling is two founders and a senior field crew built for high-end outdoor work. Mike holds the Class B general contractor's license the company operates under; he brings twenty-five years in the trades and a specialty materials background most outdoor-remodel firms do not have access to. Gio runs the design and client side of the practice. Our Field Lead runs the build crew and has spent twenty-five years doing this work at the high end of San Diego's market.

The crew's combined field experience is more than fifty years. That is the number that shows up in the joints.

Where we work

By design, not by dispatch.

We work across San Diego County, by appointment and by plan. Projects begin with a conversation, return with a drawing, and are scheduled months ahead. We do not roll trucks to ideas. If you need someone on your property tomorrow, we are not your firm — and we will gladly tell you who is.

Common questions

Straight answers.

What kind of projects do you take on? +

Full backyard remodels and the components that make them — hardscape, structure, outdoor kitchens, fire features, lighting, turf. We do not take on maintenance or small-scope work. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you in the first conversation and point you toward the right firm.

How much does a full backyard remodel cost in San Diego? +

Most of our projects land between $80,000 and $250,000 for a full outdoor living scope. Entry-level hardscape work starts around $20,000–$50,000. Scope, materials, and permitting drive the number more than anything else.

How long does a project take from first call to finished? +

The first conversation happens Day 1. Design typically takes one to two weeks. Permitting runs in parallel with procurement — that phase varies by jurisdiction and material lead times. The build itself runs two to four months on site. We give you a real timeline once we understand your project, not a marketing number.

Do I need permits for a backyard remodel? +

Any structural work — pergolas over a certain size, outdoor kitchens with gas, retaining walls over four feet, electrical — requires permits in San Diego jurisdictions. We handle the drawings, submittals, plan check, and inspection scheduling on every project that requires them.

What does your warranty cover? +

One year workmanship warranty on all labor and installations. Ten months after final handover, we return to the property for a scheduled walk-through — inspecting joints, drainage, finishes, and any structures we built. No invoice for that visit.

Do you use subcontractors? +

No subcontractor chains. One crew, first cut to final clean. Gio or Mike is personally on every project. Our Field Lead runs the day-to-day with a crew that has more than fifty years of combined field experience in San Diego.

What materials do you work with? +

Belgard, Techo-Bloc, and Cambridge pavers. Natural stone including travertine, flagstone, and quartzite. Large-format porcelain. Ipe and other hardwoods. Steel. Concrete. Our specialty materials background gives us supplier relationships most landscape-remodel firms do not have access to.

What is your payment schedule? +

A deposit schedule written into the contract before work begins. No deposit that funds a previous client's job. The schedule is tied to project milestones, not to our cash flow.

"Honestly, they crushed it. The whole backyard — pool, kitchen, patio, everything — came out better than I expected. It's where I spend most of my time now."

"Mike and his crew have worked on all my houses over the years. They are the only ones I trust to do things right everytime. That is the reason I put my name behind them."

Avi

February 2026

"My husband and I purchased a new home with no backyard. Mike and Marcos made the process seamless and easy every step of the way — they were there to listen and give feedback on how to do things best. The result was a backyard that we get to spend family time in all year long."

How to begin

A first conversation is thirty minutes.

By phone or on your property. We will ask what you want the space to feel like, we will listen to what you have already tried, and we will tell you — honestly — whether we are the right firm for the project. If we are not, we will say who is.

There is no cost to begin.
